Exams

One of the most important things you can do for your pet is to maintain a regular schedule of physical exams and vaccinations against contagious diseases. We recommend your pet be seen annually, and in some cases, twice annually, for a complete physical examination by one of our veterinarians.

Hospitalization

Our full-service facility specializes in small animal medicine and is equipped to care for your sick or injured pet. We provide overnight hospitalization and support for our patients, including an isolation ward for our patients with contagious diseases. We are able to provide pain management, fluid administration and nutritional support, injections and administration of medications.

Dental Services

Avery Animal Hospital believes Dental Health is an important part of the overall health of your pet. Preventive and therapeutic dental procedures are performed under anesthesia with one of our Certified Veterinary Dental Technicians. Digital intra-oral radiographs and treatment of periodontal and endodontic conditions, including dental extractions, are performed as needed by the veterinarian.
  • A 30-minute appointment
  • Annual vaccines, heartworm testing and fecal analysis
  • Heartworm, flea, and tick prevention
  • Additional wellness or senior screening, as recommended by the veterinarian

Vaccines

Advances in veterinary medicine have led our hospital to reevaluate our vaccination protocols for both dogs and cats. Research has shown that many vaccines can be given less frequently, a few are needed more frequently, with the key being a plan tailored to your pet's lifestyle. The comprehensive physical exam remains the focus of each visit. For more detailed information, please visit our Vaccine Information page.

Surgery

Avery Animal Hospital offers many standard surgeries for the well-being of our patients, including spays, neuters, declaws, tumor removal and soft tissue repair. Our surgical suite has gas anesthesia and patient monitoring equipment. We perform pre-anesthetic exams on all of our surgical candidates, and recommend pre-surgical blood screening. We also provide pre- and post-surgical hospitalization and client education when the patient is ready to return home to complete his recovery.

Diagnostics

Our in-house laboratory provides timely results for routine and emergency diagnostics, including:
  • Blood work
  • Fecal analysis
  • Urinalysis
  • Heartworm Testing
  • Felv/Fiv Testing
  • Cytology
  • EKG and Blood Pressure Analysis
  • Digital Radiology
In addition, ultrasound and endoscopy are employed for advanced imaging.

Dogs should be vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Coronavirus, and Rabies. In addition, dogs which will be boarded, groomed, or going to training classes should receive a Bordatella (kennel cough) vaccine. Other dogs may need a Lymes disease vaccine. Adult dogs should have an annual blood test to check for heartworm disease. We advise that your dog be kept on heartworm prevention all year long.

Cats should be immunized against Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, Calcivirus, Chlamydia, and Rabies. Outdoor cats (or those exposed to outdoor cats) should also be vaccinated against Feline Leukemia virus. New kittens and cats with unknown backgrounds should be tested for Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus before exposure to other cats. We are now recommending that all cats also receive heartworm preventative medication year-round.

All pets should have a stool sample checked annually for intestinal parasites to help prevent the transmission of zoonotic diseases.
